Italy has reported two outbreaks of Dourine in horses in Catania, Sicily (OIE 2011; see map). One of the affected horses was destroyed while the second was still alive, but critically ill at the time of notification (27th May 2011). In contact horses are under restriction. Diagnosis was made by complement fixation test (CFT) and clinical signs. Epidemiological investigations into the source of the outbreaks are underway.
